Call for Applications: 2 postdoc positions

Naples ‘L’Orientale’, ERC TabulaRasa project

Call for Applications: 2 postdoc positions (Naples ‘L’Orientale’, ERC TabulaRasa project)

The University of Naples ‘L’Orientale’ invites applications for two postdoctoral positions within the ERC-funded project TabulaRasa. Clay, wax, and the impact of erasable writing technologies on manuscript cultures (2025–2030, PI: Michele Cammarosano).

Each position is offered as a two-year contract, renewable up to a total of five years (gross salary: €40,000 p.a.).

The two researchers will study the use of rewritable media—especially wax tablets—in (1) the Greco-Roman world and (2) Medieval and Early Modern Europe, focusing on historical, codicological, and palaeographical aspects. They will also support material analysis and experimental activities.

TabulaRasa takes the use of clay and wax tablets in the Ancient Near East, the Classical world, and Medieval to Early Modern Europe as the centerpiece of a comprehensive exploration of the role of rewritability in manuscript cultures, adopting an interdisciplinary approach combining artefact study, material analysis and experimentation.
